After months of planning, BlogathonATX #4 finally happened this weekend!
A few years ago @IleenieWeenie decided to pull together bloggers from the Greater Austin area, put them in the same space, stuff them full of coffee & local food, and give them access to wireless all day. The result was an Austin-style gathering that has grown in popularity in a very short time. BlogathonATX is based on a simple premise: Bloggers are independent, unwieldy folk who can be herded at events slightly more effectively than one can herd cats. So a free-form event where people have multiple options to do whatever they like is ideal.
Giving us a big, comfortable place with chairs, couches, and desks; lots and LOTS of power outlets; tables full of food; engaging sessions which one can either attend or not, depending on their mood; bowls of candy; really fast wireless; and plenty of free time where we can meet other people, blog, or take a nap (which I often do at Blogathon) makes for a really, really good time.
Once again, I was honored to be the official “Social Media Czar” for this event, which basically means that I (and my team which included @EvinSchmevin and @TMIhijabi) live tweeted and Facebooked the event, and did social media promotion for several weeks up until the day of the event. It’s so fun to be in the mix and do what I love in this environment!
I want to personally thank Ilene Haddad for her dedication to making Blogathon happen. She is absolutely the driving force behind this event and she works really hard to keep it cool and fun. I also want to thank Mr. Weenie who is an AV genius, and who is single-handedly responsible for making BlogathonATX a bona-fide production.
Thanks, too, for The Austin Bodyworker who provided us with breakfast tacos (a MUST for my creative process) and Kohana Coffee for some of the best brew we’ve ever had a Blogathon. Thanks to Laurie Leiker of Lonely Gourmet for sponsoring the delicious lunch by Central Market, and to the dudes from Roll on Sushi who provided us with a delicious sample of their sushi to perk up our afternoon. And finally, thanks to Mass Relevance for the awesome Twitter Wall–that is one of the highlights of the event and a major form of entertainment for all of us.
Check out the short but sweet video I made at BlogathonATX featuring just a few of the diverse bloggers that attended:
